French Perambulator c1885. Make unknown. Nothing is known about the history of this little pram, though small it is never-the-less a babies pram and not a dolls pram. It has been extensively restored (see restoration page) it is constructed from wood, card and paper and padded with straw and shredded seaweed, which is not uncommon for French Prams. |

Mailcart c1890. Make unknown. Perambulators were great status symbols, exotic woods were imported and used for marquetry or elaborately carved, however this example is quite modestly carved; they were also made from wicker, cane and paper mache, while others were beautifully painted. Great gatherings took place in parks and gardens so ‘Nanny’ could show off with the latest model. |
