Wooden Pushchair c1880. This example can be used for sitting or lying down, though it wouldn’t be suitable for babies. This was another difficult restoration project as very little of the original upholstery remained, having almost totally disintegrated. The pattern had to be made up as we went along, but we are pleased with the result and we are pretty confident that it is very near to the original design. The wood looked bleached when we got it but with a lot of elbow grease, wire wool and furniture restorer it was brought back to the lovely patina you can see in the picture.

Wooden Pushchair c1920. This example can be used forward or backward facing by moving the back rest. This and the pushchair pictured above were both constructed in the same way and this type of folding pushchair was hugely popular for many years. There were hundreds of different designs on the same principle and many examples still survive today. The original carpet had not survived so it has been replaced with upholstery material, unfortunately modern carpet is totally unsuitable.
